The British Academy Writing Workshop

The Department of Law at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the British Academy; Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham; and South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) organized the ‘British Academy Writing Workshop 2018’ at IUB’s own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka from October 12-14, 2018. The closing ceremony of the Workshop was held on October 14, 2018. Prof. Fiona De Londras, Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham, was the Keynote Speaker in the ceremony.
Dr. Kamal Hossain, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and the Chairperson, South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS); Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB; Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University (CIU); Prof. Matthew Carven from University of London; Prof. Kate Bedford from Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham spoke on the occasion.
Prof. Shirin Rai, University of Warwick, UK, chaired the presentation session of Professor Fiona De Londras.
Prof. Fiona De Londras discussed her research on ‘Human Rights and Counter Terrorism’. She informed that different countries have different problems with diverse resolving methodologies. However, at present, ineffective judiciary systems have created predominant violence, Dr. Londras added. She highlighted the facts of civil societies are being disregarded often or disconnected from the reality of social security.
Following the presentation, floor was open for question-answer session where students participated enthusiastically.
The program ended with vote of thanks given by Prof. Borhan Uddin Khan, Head, Department of Law, IUB and, Dr. Mohammad Shahabuddin, Reader in International Law & Human Rights at Birmingham Law School, University of Birmingham. Mr. Abdul Hai Sarkar, Chairman, ESTCDT, Mr. Rashed Chowdhury, former Chairman, Board of Trustees, Mr. Ashraf Uddin Ahmed, Chairman Finance Committee, Deans, Senior members from the faculty & administration and full-house students attended the Seminar.
