The Department of English, IUB organized a talk entitled ‘Heredity and Other Structures of Continuity’ by Dilruba Z. Ara, a poet and a fiction writer, on Thursday, 25 February 2016. Educated in Bangladesh and Sweden, Dilruba Z. Ara is the author of internationally acclaimed novel A List of Offences. Dilruba’s stories ‒ published in many international anthologies ‒ are studied at universities across the world. Referring to her latest novel Blame set against the backdrop of Bangladesh’s war of independence, she has delineated how the Muslim female identity was before and after the independence of Bangladesh. Dr Razia Sultana Khan, Professor, Department of English, IUB introduced the speaker while Mr Towhid Bin Muzaffar, Head, Department of English and Department of Modern Languages, IUB delivered the vote of thanks. The event was conducted by Mr Md Shaiful Islam, Senior Lecturer, Department of English, IUB.
