Mr. Nabil Ahmed holds an MSc in Development Economics from the University of Manchester as well as an MA in the Social Anthropology of Development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. He has over 5 years experience in development research and practice in Bangladesh as well as the UK, including 4 years working on microinsurance-related activities.

He teaches in the MSS in Development Studies programme at IUB. His areas of interest are far-flung and include issues related to poverty, inequality, gender and development, climate change and environmental refugees, voluntary and forced migration, diasporic communities and microfinance.

He was recently selected as a finalist in the Guardian UK newspaper’s International Development Journalism award for an article he wrote about Climate Change in Bangladesh. He was subsequently commissioned to travel to Jamaica to write a piece on ‘Youth Voices in the Media’ published in the Guardian in November 2009.
