Seminar on Tigers in Sundarbans

Department of Social Sciences and Humanities of SLASS at IUB organized a Seminar on “Tigers in Sundarbans” on October 7, 2018 at its own campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka. IFIC Literary Award winning tiger expert, Khasru Chowdhury was the Keynote Speaker of the program.
Professor M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB chaired the Seminar and delivered valuable speech. The event started with a welcome address given by Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean of SLASS. Nazir Ahmed, Assistant Professor of the Department also spoke in the program.
Based on his research experience, Khasru Chowdhury highlighted prevailing environment for the flora and fauna in the Sundarbans. He stated that ecological effect is one of the major causes for eliminating animals and forest. Many people living in Sundarbans are poaching in the jungle and fishing in neighboring rivers and canals. They destroy trees; hunt various animals. They are not even aware of potential threats and disastrous consequences that may occur on ecology.
Subsequent to his presentation, floor was open for question-answer session where students participated enthusiastically. The Seminar ended with a vote of thanks delivered by Obydullah Al Marjuk, senior lecturer of the Department. Members of the faculty and administration and a large number of students attended the Program.
