IUB-Law is not only limited to achieve academic excellence rather it invests in the development of leadership and organizing skills of its graduates and ensures their best exposures in the national and global platforms and the IUB Law Students Society and Moot Court Society play instrumental roles in these regards. IUB-Law believes that the graduates it produces will augment the strength of IUB and will be partners in its vision.

Vision

A Law Department dedicated to serve society – locally, nationally, and internationally – by providing a collaborative environment conducive to innovative and rigorous legal education and research aimed at advancing the causes of human dignity and social justice.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Law is to foster a more just society through a well-rounded legal education that prepares students for the practice of law in the widest sense as well as equip them to contribute to policy discourses on a wide range of legal issues. As one of the finest law schools of Bangladesh, we maintain an intellectual culture that bridges theory with practice through partnership and engagement with professionals, stakeholders and external groups.

Core Values

The Department embraces the core values of holistic knowledge through combining the three ‘I’s i.e., Identity, Independence and Integration within the academic ethos of the Department of Law.

Identity: The Department inspires the students to explore different layers of their identity and its interaction from varying degrees of socio-legal aspects.

Independence: It is only a liberated soul which can offer freedom and justice to the others. The curricula which is a blend of theory and practice, set the students in an independent cycle of thinking and deconstructing their traditional understanding of knowledge.

Integration: It is essential to not only explore identity and liberating from the cycle of conceptual colonialism, but also to integrate with the community and contextualize the knowledge of law for the greater purposes of human beings.

Why Studying Law?

Education in the 21st century is equally examined through the prisms of the both egalitarian and utilitarian viewpoint and the rise of liberalized global economic order has measured the justification of pursuing tertiary level education through the ‘utilitarian prism’ than the conventional ‘knowledge harvesting’ one and therefore choosing a particular concentration hinges on a number of factors like the unique set of skills it develops among students and the opportunities it offers to its graduates and most importantly the translating and transferable nature of the degree in the very competitive global world.

Career Opportunities

Being a vocational education, law degree opens up a wide range of career opportunities. In addition to the traditional routes of choosing law practice, judiciary and legal academia, a law graduate is capable of exploring into other unorthodox avenues like rights activism, civil services, law enforcement agencies and corporate legal arena. A law degree equips one with the necessary knowledge and understanding of the power dynamics functioning at different spheres of the society.

Translating the degree and skills into practice

The set of skills achieved through studying law enables a graduate to translate real life challenges in a novel and unique manner. Successful completion of a law degree fortifies graduates with a range of skills like critical reasoning, problem solving and logical argumentation. Theoretical and philosophical understanding of legal knowledge translated in action brings positive changes in individual as well as collective context.

Shift of Track/ Translating the degree and skills into other professions

As knowledge is a holistic phenomenon, a degree in law does not essentially confine a graduate within the four corners of legal professions. Essential set of skills learnt throughout legal studies can be significantly helpful even if one chose to opt out from law professions. The intellectual stimulation throughout an intense legal training in formal institutions significantly help individual to develop an insight towards the functioning of the procedural aspects of law. This insight infused with practical skills differentiates a law graduate from other disciplines in the competitive market economy.

Academic Environment

Independent University, Bangladesh cherishes a longstanding culture of academic excellence. Being a part of this tradition, the department of law fosters a sound academic environment where well-trained and experienced faculties are closely connected with the students. The congenial academic environment creates an atmosphere which helps the junior scholars i.e. students to create a lifelong relationship with the senior scholars i.e. the faculty members. Keeping in mind the expectations of fast growing market economy, IUB Law follows the modern methodologies of teaching and research in an intellectually stimulating environment.

Creating Synergy

The objective of education is not only to create professionals, but also developing mind through creating synergy of knowledge. Through facilitating a mutually incorporative and interactive relationship between students and faculty members, IUB Law aims at creating a harmonious synergy of knowledge. The synergy will enable the students to route their professional goals without sacrificing the core values and ideals of education i.e. creating good human being. The synergy of knowledge will help the graduates to flourish professionally and personally in addition to maintaining a lifelong institutional bonding premised at the IUB Law.
