Indigenous communities present captivating cultural programs at IUB

The School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences of Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) organized a cultural performance by the Indigenous Communities of Bangladesh on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at IUB Campus in Bashundhara, Dhaka.
Mr. Rashed Chowdhury, Chairman, Board of Trustees, IUB inaugurated the program as the Chief Guest. Prof. M. Omar Rahman, Vice Chancellor, IUB delivered his welcome speech while Dr. Mahbub Alam, Dean, School of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences explained the background of indigenous communities’ cultural heritage . Mr. Towhid Samad, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Chittagong Independent University delivered vote of thanks.
The students of Moanoghar Residential High School, Rangamati and a Mandi group from Madhupur enthralled the audience by their musical performances and traditional dances. They performed 9 different dances and 3 songs including jum dance, bamboo dance, changbi dance; dance of hunting, bottle dance and dances by the garo, chakma and tripura community. The songs include chakma song and umbrella songs.
Members of the Trustees, Pro Vice chancellor of IUB, Deans, members of the faculty and management and a full-house students enjoyed indigenous communities’ 2-hour delightful cultural performances.
