Mr. Shaiful Islam is an MA in Applied Linguistics and English Language Teaching from the University of Dhaka. He has been teaching English language courses at the Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) since January, 2003. The courses he teaches include ENG 101 (English Listening and Speaking Skills), ENG 102 (English Reading Skills), ENG 104 (English Writing Skills), ENG 105 (Business English) and ENG 106 (Advanced English Skills). Moreover, he coordinates ENG 105 (Business English) course.
Mr. Islam has keen interest in academic research. The areas of his reserach interest include English Language Teaching (ELT), Discourse Analysis, Curriculum Development, Syllabus Design, Linguistic Theory, Material Devepolment and Cultural Identity.
In addition to teaching and research, Mr. Islam is the Moderator of IUB Debating Club (IUBDC) and in this capacity, he conducts workshop on debate, trains the new debaters and, above all, looks after the overall activities of IUBDC. He led IUB debating teams in international arena on several occasions. Most mentionable are World Universities Debating Championship (WUDC) in Malaysia and Ireland, World Universities Peace Invitational Debate in Malaysia and South Asian Universities Youth Festival in Nepal. He also adjudicated in these tournaments.
